چکیده
The stopover behaviour of Black-throated Divers Gavia arctica and Red-throated stellata during autumn migration was observed in two sites Poland. Differences time-activity budget diving pattern were recorded from mid-October to mid-January 2004 2005. A total 1,516 minutes observation achieved. Birds spent their time (60.7%), followed by preening (14.8%), surface swimming (12.5%), other activities (12%). feeding similar. Immature birds had significantly longer dives than adults they made dive-pause intervals. This is suggested be caused the differences between age classes detecting capturing prey. Moreover, our results show that, autumn, first-year divers less foraging adult birds, instead spending more resting swimming.

International migration patterns of Red-throated Loons (Gavia stellata) from four breeding populations in Alaska
Identifying post-breeding migration and wintering distributions of migratory birds is important for understanding factors that may drive population dynamics. Red-throated Loons (Gavia stellata) are widely distributed across Alaska and currently have varying population trends, including some populations with recent periods of decline. To investigate population differentiation and the location of...
متن کاملWhite-throated sparrows calibrate their magnetic compass by polarized light cues during both autumn and spring migration.
The interaction and hierarchy of celestial and magnetic compass cues used by migratory songbirds for orientation has long been the topic of an intense debate. We have previously shown that migratory Savannah sparrows, Passerculus sandwichensis, use polarized light cues near the horizon at sunrise and sunset to recalibrate their magnetic compass. Birds exposed to a +/-90 deg. shifted artificial ...
متن کاملTemporal migration patterns between natal locations of ruby-throated hummingbirds (Archilochus colubris) and their Gulf Coast stopover site
Background Autumn latitudinal migrations generally exhibit one of two different temporal migration patterns: type 1 where southern populations migrate south before northern populations, or type 2 where northern populations overtake southern populations en route. The ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is a species with an expansive breeding range, which allows opportunities to exam...
متن کاملLead poisoning in common loons (Gavia immer).
Two emaciated common loons (Gavia immer) were believed to have died of lead poisoning when fragments of fishing lines and lead sinkers were discovered in their stomachs. Later a third emaciated loon, which had only the remnants of fishing line in its stomach, was suspected of being a possible lead-poisoning victim when all other test results were negative. The liver lead levels in the first two...
